The Floating Project

World Bank is going to invest in the development of the world’s largest floating solar power plant. 600 MW floating power plant will be developed at Omkareshwar dam on Narmada river in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh.

The world’s largest solar power project is to be built at Omkareshwar dam on the Narmada River in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. This project will start generating power between 2022 – 23. The estimated investment in this project is Rs 3,000 crore.

The primary feasibility study of the project has been completed in collaboration with The World Bank. As per the state power ministry, the project is likely to be commissioned by the year 2022-23. Keeping in view, of social development, a tender is also being issued on the project area for the study of environmental and social impact. Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company has agreed to purchase 400 MW of power from the project.

According to this project, the backwaters of Omkareshwar dam will have floating solar panels of 600 MW power generation capacity, in which electricity will be produced in about 2000 hectares of water area. It will start providing affordable and good quality electricity in 2 years.
