The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) is considering setting up a standalone energy storage project which has a 2000 MWh capacity. This solar project will be carried out by the private sector. The corporation said that the projects be set up on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis with a 25-year agreement.
According to the reliable resource, “SECI has initiated a project for 2,000 MWh standalone energy system. The detailed tender will be floated by August end. SECI has issued a notice for a request for selection. SECI will enter into an agreement with the successful bidders for 25 years as per the terms, conditions, and provisions.”
India has announced some ambitious targets in the field of renewable energy, 175 GW by 2022, 275 GW by 2027, and 450 GW by 2030, in which, solar energy and wind energy sources are mainly included. These goals of renewable energy sources are very difficult to achieve without grid-scale energy storage because the capacity value of variable renewable energy sources becomes restricted in the absence of grid-scale energy storage.
On similar lines, last month NTPC Limited had also sought Expression of Interest (EOI) from both domestic and international companies intending to install 1,000 MW grid-connected Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at the premises of its power projects across the country.
